Happy 2010 everyone! Cory and I had a blast rolling in the new year with friends. Can you believe it’s the start of a new decade?! Are you where you thought you would be ten years ago? Things are even better than I thought they would be ten years ago!

After all the new years kisses, we had a champagne toast at midnight with plastic cups (classy!) under the fireworks! Although I had a couple glasses of wine, new years day I felt great thanks to drinking lots of water in between drinks. Every year my mom makes the traditional “lucky” new years day dinner… black eyed peas and cabbage! Cory does not like cabbage or black eyed peas so I tried to eat enough to bring both of us good fortune and wealth!

I read an interesting article- Lucky Foods for the New Year. Grapes, cooked greens, legumes, fish, pork, and cakes are all “lucky” foods throughout many cultures. I had the cooked greens and legumes covered… and maybe the wine I had after midnight counts towards my grape consumption?! Apparently, there are also some “unlucky” foods that by superstition should be avoided on new years day. For example, lobsters are not a good choice because they move backwards which may cause “setbacks” in the upcoming year. Also, chicken is a bad idea because the “bird scratches backwards, which could cause regret or dwelling on the past”.

Did you eat any “lucky” foods on New Years Day? What new years traditions do you celebrate each year?

Kasey
