Howdy y’all! Thanks so much for all the sweet comments and birthday wishes
I had a wonderful birthday filled with family, crawfish, sushi, and shopping.
If you are ever visiting New Orleans, I recommend trying a local favorite- boiled crawfish! While they are amazingly delicious, crawfish that are boiled in the traditional Southern fashion are usually very high in sodium so eat in moderation! Click here for more info about crawfish.
Even though more than 50% of my work day is sitting at a desk, I usually make an effort to sneak in some physical activity by often taking the stairs instead of the elevators. I was curious to see how effective my efforts were of increasing my level of physical activity at work. So today, I wore a pedometer for the first time ever at work. According to the Michigan Department of Community Health, “most people take 500 to 3,000 steps per day unless they make a special effort to walk or exercise”. When I got home from work, the pedometer read…
4,313 steps from the moment I left the house till the moment I came home. Could be better but could be worse! 2,000 steps usually equals about 1 mile (depending on your stride) which means I walked over two miles over the course of my work day. 10,000 steps each day is recommended for weight management. I think the steps from my work day plus my usual cardio workout (~30 minutes of aerobics or dancing) comes pretty close to 10,000 steps.
Have you ever worn a pedometer to work? How physically active is your job? What are some ways you sneak in exercise at work?
Kasey

I did that once when I worked at Mayo Clinic. I think I was only averaging about 2200 steps per day. I’d be curious to do it now that I’m a busy stay at home mom, just to compare.
I never wore one at work, but I have one I use to wear when I walked the track. I will have to do it at work to see how many steps. I am on my feet most of the day. I always park far away when I go to the grocery or the mall. I always take the stairs instead of the elevators.
I don’t use a pedometer but never seem to have the best of luck with them.
I have a very inactive job. I sit at my desk the whole day! Sometimes I try to go out on my lunch break. I used to work out at lunch but have switched to 4 ten hour days with half hour lunches versus an hour.
I have only had crawfish once, but I’d like to have it again…
I try to walk as much as possible during the day, but I often end up sitting at my desk for long periods, grading and doing prep work. I have worn a pedometer before, and I’m thinking of getting a better/more accurate model. I think that tracking my steps is definitely a motivator to get up and move more…
crawfish, sushi, and shopping..what a combo! love it.
I have a pedometer, but it’s broken! Sadly, I have not actually worn it yet. But I should get on this asap! thanks Kasey! and of course, have a lovely weekend.
Mmm, I would LOVE to try New Orlean’s crawfish!! I bet it’s awesome. And their clam chowder too…..yum.
When I wore a pedometer for a day my steps were about the same as yours. I am on my fee all day, but I don’t do a TON of walking. When I added my cardio exercise, I reached my 10,000 step goal, so I would assume you did too!!
4,000 steps isn’t bad at all.. especially for a desk job. I have never worn one but I would be curious how many steps I take a day. Your cardio sounds like fun. I feel so much satisfaction after a long, hard run, but I do enjoy a fun cardio class every now and then.
And happy belated birthday girl!!!
