I Heart Greek Yogurt

Hello y’all!  Hope everyone is having a great week so far.  Things are finally starting to settle down around here.  My best friend’s wedding and all the pre-wedding festivities were a blast.  She was a beautiful bride!

Unfortunately, I was too busy with my Maid of Honor duties and hanging out with friends and family to take any pictures of the food :(

Speaking of food, I am loving the versatility of plain Greek yogurt!  Initially, it took me a little while to get used to the slightly sour taste but I loved the creaminess!  The more ways I discover to eat Greek yogurt, the more I fall in love with it!

I am really excited to see that many of the mainstream companies are starting to produce more affordable lines of Greek yogurt. I love Fage but it’s on the pricy side. What’s so good about Greek yogurt?  Well for starters, it has almost double the amount of protein of regular yogurt which helps with satiety.  For example, the Fage Greek yogurt pictured has 20 grams of protein per cup compared to around 12 grams of regular, fat free, plain yogurt.  Also, it has over 50% less sugar than regular yogurt!  Not to mention, it is thicker and creamier than regular yogurt.

How do I eat my Greek yogurt?

For a snack, I just add fresh fruit…

For a more filling meal such as breakfast, I add fresh fruit plus whole grain cereal…

At dinner time, I often add a dollop of fat free Greek yogurt to my tacos instead of sour cream…

And sometimes I like to use it as a dip for baked chips…

Have you tried Greek yogurt yet?  What are some different ways you eat Greek yogurt?

I have been so consumed with wedding mania that I have no plans for my birthday which is tomorrow!  I may celebrate with a couple friends tomorrow after work and then go out to dinner with my family over the weekend.

Have a great day and thanks for reading :)

I hear ya on the Greek:) Once I switched from regular … there was no going back! Right now I’m hooked on eating it with Kashi Vive cereal. Nice idea to use it as a dip…never thought of that!

    Have a great week:)

  2. OH my gosh..I almost forgot–HAPPY ALMOST BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love the wedding pictures! Your best friend and you are both stunning — I love both of your dresses…and the cake :)

I adore Greek yogurt! I use the plain in all sorts of recipes in place of cream cheese, sour cream, etc. And I love the flavored Greek yogurts just as a snack. I think they’re so satisfying with all that thick, creaminess! And the protein, too!

I have to admit that I’m not that crazy about the taste on it’s own. That said, I eat it with cranberry sauce added, or on top of butternut squash soup, tacos, baked potatoes, etc. Sometimes I will even add it to my salad dressing just to get the added protein.

Yum! Yum! Miss you already Kase! I love using greek yogurt as a dip and for sandwiches — mix it with diced cucumber, dill, lemon juice and a little garlic! It’s delish!

  10. yum! At the Massachusetts Dietetic Assoc annual conference yesterday, Chobani was showcasing their new greek yogurt for kids…cool right? It’s 4oz instead of 60z, and has the same great flavor and kid-friendly names.

  11. Wow, the wedding looks like it was gorgeous!! And, you look stunning in that black dress. I love that she chose such versatile dresses for her bride’s maids. I want to do that too, so my friends can wear the dresses again!

I love Greek yogurt. I don’t really have a favorite, but I do like the Fage a lot. It’s definitely my top 3. I like Oikos and Trader Joe’s brand too. I like to eat it with peanut butter, Truvia, and unsweetened cocoa powder!!

  12. The wedding looks absolutely gorgeous! The cake is divine! I heart greek yogurt as well :)
