Time Management

Do you ever wish there were more hours in a day?  Currently, my dining room is like the Grand Central Station for everything to do with weddings!  Wedding gifts keep trickling in for Cory and I and there is a huge stack of ‘Thank You’ cards I hope to finish this weekend.  Plus, I’m in my friend Christi’s wedding tomorrow (the wedding rehearsal/dinner was last night), I’m organizing my friend Claudia’s bachelorette party getaway in Destin, FL the following weekend, and the weekend after that I’m standing in Claudia’s wedding!  Whew- it’s exhausting just to type all of that!  I’ve been so busy I haven’t even turned on the TV this week.

A huge thing that is helping me stay on the right track despite my growing and growing “to do” lists is prioritizing.  I number each task based on importance/urgency.  For example, here is Cory and I’s “Wedding To Do List”-

Another thing I have found that helps me be more efficient is to avoid multi-tasking!  Trying to do too many things at one time stresses me out and slows me down as I am constantly switching gears from one project to another.  I work best with minimal distractions.  For example, I always blog without the TV or other noisy distractions playing in the background.

Despite my best efforts, I could certainly improve at time management. Cory thinks I need to work on delegating or outsourcing responsibilities to others.  It’s true, sometimes I have the mind set that “if you want something done right you should do it yourself”.  But it’s also important for me to realize that I’m not superwoman and others can be very helpful.  I’m working on this but it’s hard.  I’m not a procrastinator so when I delegate a responsibility to someone who waits till the last minute to do things , I become impatient!

How are you at time management?  Do you make “to do” lists?

Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!

Kasey

  2. Wow! You are busy! Enjoy this exciting time in your life! :)

Yes, I make lists. They really help when I feel overwhelmed. And you are so right about not doing multiple things at once; it’s not a time saver…

    Enjoy your weekend! :)

YES! I love lists, and make multiple ones throughout the day. Ahh, there’s nothing better than to check off a box. By the way, I love your cute list stationary. Best of luck with the wedding planning Kasey!

  5. I am not always the best at management. I’m sure it is so much fun to get all this wedding stuff together, but I’m sure it can be super stressful, especially since you have so many other things going on!
I am definitely a “to do list” person! I definitely helps. I also love the feeling of crossing things off!
    Have a great weekend!!!

If you’d like a tool for managing your time and projects, you can use this application inspired by David Allen’s GTD:

    http://www.Gtdagenda.com

You can use it to manage and prioritize your goals, projects and tasks, set next actions and contexts, use checklists, schedules and a calendar.
Comes with a mobile version too, and with an Android app.
