Good, Better, Best

Hello!  Thanks everyone for the sweet comments about my bridal shower :)   Can you believe it’s almost March?!  May 29th (our wedding day) will be here before we know it!

Over the past few days, I have tried a handful of new food products that I wanted to share.  First up is Amy’s Light in Sodium, Low Fat Butternut Squash Soup.

This soup started off pretty promising with good nutritional stats- zero saturated fat, zero trans fats, and two grams fiber per serving!  This was lower in sodium than most canned soups with 290 mg of sodium per serving.

The soup had a light, thin consistency.  It would be a great companion to a salad or sandwich.  My major complaint is the strong metallic taste.  Overall it was “good”, I give it a 7 out of 10 on the taste scale.  I do not plan on buying this again.

Next, I finally tried a Kind Bar- the Fruit & Nut Delight.

As many of you know, my heart belongs to Larabars in the world of snack bars but, this bar was really good and it was a nice change in bar consistency. Kind Bars are made of whole nuts and fruits bound together with honey while the Larabars have fruit and nuts that are grounded/pureed together to form a bar.  This Kind Bar had great stats with 170 calories, 11 grams fat (mostly unsaturated fats), 3 grams fiber, and 5 grams of protein.  Overall, I liked this new product “better” than the soup and give it a 8.5 out of 10 on the taste scale.

Last but not least, I tried another flavor of Food Should Taste Good chips after loving the Jalapeno flavor so much!

The Buffalo flavor was fabulous and pretty similar to the Jalapeno flavor but made with cayenne pepper instead of jalapenos. As for the nutritional info…

A little higher in sodium than the other flavor but still low in saturated fat and good source of fiber! Overall, these chips were the “best” new food product I tried and gave them a 9 out of ten on the taste scale!  I ended up dipping them in plain greek yogurt which was pretty tasty!

Have you tried any new food products?  Any fun plans for the weekend?

I’m helping throw a HUGE party this weekend for my best friend’s wedding.  Tomorrow, I took off of work so I can run errands for the party, buy all the food, cook, etc.  Next post will likely feature some of the party foods we will serve.  Have a great day and thanks for reading!

I cooked a dish with tofu, which although not new, was something I have never made.
Those chips look yummy. I don’t know if I would be able to stop at one serving.
I really like KIND bars. Larabars are up there on my favorites too!

I LOVE Kind Bars! They’re pricey, so I started making my own and I love them!

I just tried Rice Chips this week — fantastic! They’re made with brown rice and are gluten-free. They’re in stores here and I’m so glad I found them! They’re low in sodium too, even though they taste really salty!! Bonus!!

No real plans this weekend…just some much needed R&R. I’ve been sick and so tired this week. I shouldn’t have pushed it with a workout last night, I’m paying for it today! At least today is my Friday…thank goodness for 3 days weekends :)

I love Amy’s foods. Have you ever researched their company? It’s named after their 18 year old daughter!

I love new product reviews. Keep it up!

I tried whipped cottage cheese while here in Florida. Can’t find it anywhere in AZ. I really liked it – kind of like ricotta. I’m a food dork, in that when I travel I love to find products that I can try that I can’t get at home.

The big day is getting so close!! Nick and I have been to a wedding on May 29th the past two years, haha, must be a popular day!
So, I’ve tried the KIND bars and really LOVE them. The only problem is their price. Yikes. Way too expensive. I would rather make my own, and that’s what I do, really. They have also shrunk in size since they first started selling them, what a bummer. As for the soup, it reminds me of Trader Joe’s butternut squash soup. It was very low in sodium (actually only 90 mg per serving!!!) and kind of bland. I added my own spices, extra veggies, and little ground turkey to really spice it up! I also added a dollop of plain Greek yogurt. It was great after all that was added :)
Hope you had a nice weekend!
