Green Smoothie

Have you tried a green monster yet?  After hearing so many people rave about green monsters in the blog world, I jumped on the green smoothie bandwagon a few months ago.  Now I find myself craving them frequently!  As much as I gush about them at home, Cory still refuses to try a Green MonsterSo if you are not intimated by a green smoothie, you should try out a green monster.

While there are many ways to make a green monstergreens (of course), fruit, milk, seeds, etc… I like to keep my smoothies pretty simple.

Ingredients

3 handfuls spinach

1 frozen banana (I freeze bananas that are too ripe/brown to eat)

1 cup almond milk

1 scoop Almond butter

You do not need a fancy, expensive blender to make smoothies.  I think the blender I have sells for about $20.

Blend all the ingredients until smooth.

Why drink greens I usually mix with spinach because it is a great source of beta-carotene (a disease-fighting antioxidant) and also provides fiber, vitamin C (another powerful antioxidant), folic acid, iron, and potassium .  For me, green monsters are very refreshing!

This green monster = 280 Calories and 7 grams Protein.

Have you ever tried a green smoothie?

They scare me a little but I always have the ingredients on hand so I’ll have to try it sometime… I think the thought of spinach and banana together is the thing that scares me…

I have to agree.. the green monster has taken over the blogging world and I think I’m the last to try one. I’ll make a point to grocery shop for my smoothie this weekend. Have you used the Amazing Grass products that Jenna blogs about? I want to.. but it’s so expensive at Whole Foods. I’m wondering if there is any nutritional benefit that I’m not already getting from veggies. Hhmm..

I have tried it out of curiosity. It is very expensive. I also wonder how beneficial it is for someone who consumes fruits and vegetables regularly.
